The Brizzell Family: Our family started attending St. Pius when Bill, Sr. was a little boy. His family lived on Bacon Lane in Loudonville and attended the old (original) church on Route 9. When Mary’s family move to Colonie in 1957, they also registered there. As Bill and Mary dated in the early 60s, they frequently attend Mass together, received the sacrament of Penance, and observed daily Mass during Lent. They were married at St. Pius by Monsignor Kerwin in 1966. Their two children, Bill Jr. and Cindy, were baptized and confirmed there. Cindy then married her husband, Justyn, in 2004 with a church full of Bill’s beautiful mums. Their two children (Emily and Isaiah) were also baptized there and now attend St. Pius X School. Bill, Cindy, and Justyn are all Eucharistic Ministers and Bill is also an Usher. We all enjoy taking part in the decorating of the church for Christmas and Easter with Bill’s flowers.

Our family has stayed at St. Pius because the parish community has been a pillar for us in our personal and professional lives. The priests and our fellow parishioners are family to us, and we enjoy sharing in each other’s joys and hardships. Two years ago, Bill and Mary celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary by renewing their vows at the church with Fr. Walsh officiating. As the third generation of Brizzell’s (Bates’) builds their spiritual home at St. Pius, Bill and Mary play a large role in teaching Emily and Isaiah about our faith and about the wonderful St. Pius community at both the church and school.
