St. Pius X Service Day:   “Let Your Light Shine”

Saturday, April 8, 2017

Please plan to join us for our 2nd annual parish-wide Service Day which will take place on Saturday, April 8, 2017.  Join family, friends, our school community and fellow parishioners as we reach out to the Capital Region in service, fulfilling our Mission Statement of “serving and loving our neighbors”.  Last year, 210 parishioners joined us as we fanned out to 10 organizations throughout Albany.  For Frequently asked Questions, click here.  To review a Schedule for the Day, click here

On this day, children in grades 6 and older and adults, will participate in a variety of service projects at organizations throughout the city such as Interfaith Partnership for the Homeless, Catholic Charities, and Compassion-in-Action, to name a few.  Children in grades K-5 will participate in rotating stations each representing a different corporal work of mercy on site at our school and Church with their peers, while their parents serve off-site.  ALL PARTICIPANTS SHOULD PLAN TO EAT LUNCH BEFORE THEY COME.  Dinner will be provided by our meal ministry team. Each station will be led by parent volunteers who have completed Safe Environment Training and the day will be full of fun and learning.  There will be a variety of age-appropriate projects for the children.  Please note:  any participant under the age of 18 must have a parent/guardian also taking part in the day.  Parents volunteering to help with the K-5 program or volunteers who will be serving as team captains for our 6th graders through adults, need to be VIRTUS trained and have received a background check.  Please click here for a link to the VIRTUS training locations and to print and fill out the background check information.  We will be holding two VIRTUS training dates at St. Pius on Sunday, March 19 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm in Conference Room B and Wednesday, March 22 from 6-8:00 pm in the front half of the Parish Center.  Please use the VIRTUS link below to officially register for one of these classes.

Online registration is available by clicking on the tab below.  In-person registration will take place on the Chapel-side entrance of Church on the weekends of March 11 and 12 and March 18 and 19.  Volunteers will be available to answer questions and assist with sign-ups on those days.  All registration ends Friday, March 24.  Extra registration hard copies will be available in the school office, parish office or at the Information Hub at Church.  If not completed online, all forms when completed should be returned to one of the above offices no later than March 24th.

Sign-up by Friday, March 24 and we’ll match you with a service project and give you an opportunity to “serve and love your neighbors”.  Join in the fun!  A team captain will contact you the week before Service Day to confirm where you will be serving on that day.  If you do not receive a call by your team captain confirming your work site by April 4, please contact Liz Jelstrom at 462-1336 or for your team assignment.

Throughout Lent, Trees of Mercy will be placed at the three entrances to our Church and the front entrance of our Parish School with items that are needed.  We invite you to take a cross from the Mercy Tree and bring the item back and place it in the bins located under the trees.  Do not wrap the items, but please affix the cross to the items.  All donations will go to benefit the children’s stations and the organizations we serve on that day.  All items must be returned no later than March 26.
