ST. PIUS X PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL MEETING
MAY 19, 2010

The meeting was called to order by Kate Burns, Vice President, at 7:05 PM.

Several intentions for prayers were voiced particularly for Tom Christman’s Mother and Sister Maureen Joyce.

Father Farano said the opening prayer.

IN ATTENDANCE

Fr. Farano, Justyn Bates, Harvey Bowks, Kate Burns, Tom Christman, Jill Counihan, Dick Connery, John Defilippo, Jackie DeSanti, Brian Evers, Catlin Mason, Dennis Mullahy, Mary Nardolillo, Marlene Papa, Cindy Pettit, Frank Pugliano, Judy Ranalli, Lana Zanello and Bar White from the School Board.

Kate asked if there were any additions or corrections.  Jill asked that the discussion regarding a Parish Nurse be included in the minutes of last month. Jill shared information regarding the possibility of having a Parish Nurse coordinate health care and act as a starting point to obtain information and resources for parishioners on health care issues. There was discussion regarding a Parish Nurse, ideas of what his/her duties would entail, and whether or not this is a paid position.  Jill said she would do further research on the subject and perhaps speak with Parishes who have a Parish Nurse.

A motion was made by Tom Christman and seconded by Dick C to approve the minutes as corrected.

PRINCIPAL’S REPORT – DENNIS BY MAIL

Marlene Papa attended the School Board and mailed out her notes.

Marlene asked Father Farano to speak to the church in Ireland.  He had discussed this subject at the School Board meeting and she felt it was pertinent to the church as a whole.

  • Teachers should be good role models
  • Teachers are a witness to a person’s life-Faith formation
  • It is very difficult to find someone who is a teacher and has the credentials to “teach religion”.  This is a very important part of a Catholic School’s curriculum to differentiate us from the public school.
  • How do we keep the Catholic Faith in schools and colleges?  For instance, if St. Peter’s Hospital becomes a part of a larger consortium of hospitals how do we insure that our Catholic Faith is not lost in the mergers.
  • In Ireland Catholic and public schools are all funded through the State.  Fortunately, our schools have our Catholic Faith to differentiate our schools from the public schools.

This was a very enlightening discussion particularly since our church is included in a cluster.
