The edited meeting notes have since been posted on the Parish web-site.
Review of Action Items – Last month’s action items were reviewed, highlights include:
A bulletin note was placed asking parishioners for their input on Agenda Items for the Parish Council Meetings. All members of St. Pius X are invited to attend any Parish Council Meeting. The dates are posted on the Parish web-site. This note will run monthly, several weeks prior to the Council meeting.
Frank Pugliano obtained and has passed on copies of the power point slides used for the Parish Survey Feedback Forum as requested.
There will be a meeting of the Bishop’s Task Force on Evangelization on January 27 and then another one in mid-March. There will be three sub-committees and the results will be passed on to Bishop Hubbard.
Committee Reports were distributed to PPC members prior to the meeting and discussed. Highlights include:
Lisa Semmes – School Board Representative
- The School Board is finalizing Winter’s Night Out plans
- There is a committee working on a 5 year Strategic Plan. This will include advertising, branding and marketing for the school.
- St Pius X School open house is upcoming and well advertised. Many lawn signs are posted and there is also a billboard on I-90.
- The Outstanding Teacher of the Year has been announced.
- The expanded pre-K program and the Kindergarten programs should bring new families into the school.
- The merging of the schools in the Diocese should not have a direct effect on St. Pius X School.
Jackie DeSanti – Sister Parishes
- Tuesday, January 27th will be the last night for picture taking for the Parish Directory.
- Fr. John from the Sister Parishes will be celebrating his 25th Anniversary.
- The Parish Directory should be finished by late Spring.
Special thanks to Jackie for all of her work setting up the appointments for pictures, etc.
Tom Christman left word with Frank concerning Christian Work and Service
Tom would like to set a date for the homeless shelter collection. Fr. Farano will talk with Tom to co-ordinate a date. The goal is to not have too many collections at the same time.
Prayer and Worship Committees recommendations concerning last month’s parishioner comments were discussed. The Council reviewed the recommendations and added two comments. The recommendations along with the two comments (italicized to separate out the committee’s thoughts from the Council’s additional comments) were personally delivered to the parishioner several days after the meeting.
Christmas Mass seating was discussed by Marlene Papa. At Christmas Mass, many people were standing at the 4:00 Mass but at the same time there were several empty seats. Not all people moved over as they could have. Marlene suggested that perhaps the ushers could make announcements and ask that people please move over in their seats. Several options were discussed. The subject along with several possible solutions was turned over to the Prayer and Worship Committee for consideration.
The Parish Web Site was discussed. Each Council member should review the site and provide input to Peter Hines or Frank Hughes for recommendations on improvements.
St Francis de Sales pastoral associate for evangelization will be attending the February Parish Council meeting. She has been effective in reaching out to the non-responders of their Parish Survey and could provide valuable insight on how St Pius could do the same.
Called to be Church status was discussed. Father Farano said that CTBC has resulted in the closing of several parishes, particularly in the cities, and the realignment of other parishes and their schools. We also discussed how this will affect St Pius directly and what happens with any closed church’s property.
Father Moore closed the meeting with a prayer.
Respectfully Submitted
Marlene Papa
