Christian Works and Service

This committee coordinates individual outreach programs sponsored by the parish and the school. For example:

• the Sacred Heart Food Collection that is distributed to families in North Albany.
• meals that are served at the Friendship Table.
• a clothing drive for the Lawanga House.
• a shoe drive for the "Shoes for the Shoeless" campaign sponsored by the Lions Club.
• a school supplies drive for the Food Pantry and our Sister Parishes.

The committee members are always interested in hearing about suggestions concerning outreach initiatives that are not already being done. If you have such a suggestion, please contact:

Discernment

Discernment is the parish's method for selecting people to serve on the St. Pius X Parish Pastoral Council.

Members of this committee work to publicize the program and to generate interest among St. Pius parishioners to participate in the discernment process. Parishioners who express interest are invited to attend an information session to learn more about discernment. After that, those who are still interested participate in a discernment session that is led by a facilitator. Four parishioners are selected through the discernment process to begin serving a three-year term on the Parish Pastoral Council.

Finance

The Finance Committee members meet monthly to review the financial affairs of the parish. This review includes monitoring the revenues, expenses and investments of the parish and school. The committee members also discuss opportunities to increase revenues, decrease expenses, improve investments results and strengthen internal controls.

Each year, the committee members review the annual budget and annual financial report, which is distributed to the parish community.

The purpose of this fair is to inform parishioners about all of the ministries and programs that are active in the parish, and to encourage parishioners to join a ministry or program in which they may be interested.

The committee members also sponsor a reception every spring to thank everyone who participates in any parish ministry or program.

Sister Parishes

The committee members maintain a relationship with our Sister Parishes in Swainsboro and Metter, Georgia. They try to respond to whatever needs there may be in those parishes - spiritual, physical or monetary. They use news items and fund-raisers to keep St. Pius parishioners involved and informed about activities in those parishes and our efforts to help them.

Committee members also try to arrange for reciprocal visits between the parishes every other year.

Welcoming

Welcoming Committee members contact new parishioners and welcome them into our parish family.
Generally, arrangements are made to meet the new parishioners, familiarize them with the ministries of the parish and present them with a welcoming basket (includes a map of the Capital District, a St. Pius X Ministry brochure and contact information, a St. Pius Recipe Book, and a number of other items donated by parish members). The welcoming member also invites all new parishioners to the next Hospitality Weekend at church, and introduces them to fellow parishioners.
