“Called To BE Church” is a two-year effort
to plan for the future of the Albany diocese. It will affect every parish
in the diocese in some way. Bishop Hubbard says: “….rather than looking at Pastoral Planning only through
the negative lens of realignments, reconfigurations, closings and consolidations,
we must, I believe, view the process as an opportunity, an opportunity
for imagining and creating our future. In this regard, our pastoral planning
process must be focused not on structure, not on buildings, not in personnel
statistics, but on mission. It is the mission which needs to determine
our structures and not vice-versa….this, I believe, requires a serious
and thoughtful conversation on our part as leaders….and as a wider
diocesan community.” “What we hope to do through ‘Called To BE Church’ is
to focus on our reality and on how to address that reality…….To
be effective, our pastoral planning must focus on how we can best fulfill
the mission and ministry of Jesus in our day and time…….Then
we need to address the question: what must we do, through good stewardship
of our resources, to make certain that the mission and ministry of Jesus
is lived to its fullest throughout the Albany diocese?” |
